At least 1 in 10 women in the United States have endometriosis. Previous research suggests that being lean, as measured by body mass index, is a risk factor for endometriosis. However, it is not known which aspects of body composition are associated with the disease, which may fill gaps in our poor understanding of the etiology of endometriosis. In this talk, Dr. Uba Backonja will discuss a study investigating whether body composition is associated with the odds of an endometriosis diagnosis using data from the National Institutes of Health that utilized a novel sampling framework and anthropometric measures. She will discuss how data visualization was used to facilitate the research and implications regarding clinical- and community-based efforts to identify and manage disease.
