Manuel L. Gonzalez-Garay, PhD, is a Research Associate Professor of Medicine and Associate Director for Applied Genomics for the Center for Biomedical Informatics and Biostatistics. Dr. Gonzalez-Garay, a professional bioinformatician and scientist, is an international expert in bioinformatics, identification of gene-disorder associations in rare genetics disorders and a pioneer in the analysis and interpretation of human genomes of healthy individuals.
Dr. Gonzalez-Garay’s research is directed at understanding the genetic basis of lymphedema, Dercum's disease, and the identification of genetics factors responsible for the predisposition to organ failure. He has authored 37 publications and delivered multiple invited presentations in bioinformatics, next generation sequencing, and rare genetic disorders. In addition, he had organized and taught multiple bioinformatics workshops.
